Hoppy Dog – Hoppy Fish

by Sean on December 5, 2015

Looks like Dogfish Head has gone off the scale and not just off-centered with one of their beers.  Hoo Lawd claims to register at 659 IBU’s (Internationa Bittering Units).  Keep in mind that most IPA’s are in the 40-60 range and that anything over 90 or so is the outer limit of what we can actually distinguish  It is an absurdly high level of bitterness.

According to the Dogfish website the mighty beer is “Brewed with an experimental hop referred to as “Alpha Beast” along with Simcoe, Warrior and Amarillo hops in CO2 extract…” The hops for this dark IPA were sourced from Yakima Chief Hopunion to procure all of the hop varieties and formats for this beer.

Will this beer be the mark where IPA’s jumped the shark?
