Will Thor be Brewing?

Fresh off the big crowds for new food and beer options at their newly opened Star Wars Land, comes news that the Earth’s Mightiest Defenders will be mashing out and dry hopping inside the park to keep Galactus and Thanos from getting too thirsty.

Maybe this is what Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Daredevil will be doing now that they are not on Netflix.

Oga’s Cantina Taplist

Looks like the taplist for Oga’s Cantina inside the Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland is taking shape…

  • Bad Motivator IPA: An India Pale Ale made with Galaxy and Comet hops with tropical fruit tones from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
  • White Wampa Ale: A Hefeweizen wheat beer with banana and citrus flavors from Ballast Point Brewing Co.
  • Gold Squadron Lager: A golden lager with lavender and plum flavors from Blue Point Brewing Co.
  • Gamorrean Ale: A red ale with roasted caramel and grapefruit flavors from New Belgium Brewing Co.
  • Spice Runner: A gluten-free hard apple cider with a dark red color and spices from Angry Orchard Cider Co.

Of this group the obvious first choices are from Sierra Nevada and New Belgium with the ABInBev owned Blue Point being the one to avoid considering that these are probably going to be on the expensive side.

(Note: I have started to see many posts about the beer and the prices, I think these beers will be popular but the other drinks will take hold. I expect Disneyland to revamp the beer line-up before the end of the year as they have already revised entrance and how to get in)

Help Me Tap This Keg Obi Wan

When Disneyland opens their Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge next year (and probably raises their entrance fee so that only the super-rich can enter) there will be a twist.

Liquor will become available (outside their special and private Club 33) when the Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu opens the doors to Oga’s cantina.

There will be a special menu from far, far away of “proprietary beer, wine and outer-space-themed cocktails.”

Kids will also be allowed into the cantina but the alcohol must stay inside. Perhaps a stormtrooper bouncer will be on patrol?

The next question for us beer fans will be:
1. Who will brew the beer? Ballast Point is big enough and has (had?) plans for a Downtown Disney location.
2. What will the beer be served in? My Star Wars knowledge doesn’t extend to proper Corellian glassware.
3. How much price gouging will go on? I expect a lot.

BP at Disney

Ballast Point already with an outpost in Long Beach will be adding a location across the street from the Happiest Place on Earth.

The San Diego brewery announced last week the fall slated opening of a small R7D brewery, tasting room and kitchen in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort.

The Constellation Brands owned brewery has a growing footprint from six tasting room locations in California, a new brewery and tasting room in Daleville, Virginia. And also in the works is a brewery and kitchen in Chicago.

Having been priced out of most theme parks and especially Disneyland, I haven’t been to the connected shopping and eating mall in a while. So I don’t know what crowd is actually walking around shopping and staying for dinner after a long day at either of the two parks. This could be a no-brainer or maybe they won’t last long because that rent will not be cheap.

Tower of Beer-or?

Adult beverages for parents seems to be the new thing at theme parks. Universal kinda-had to have a Moe’s Tavern for it’s Simpsons Land and their new Harry Potter attraction also has some magical alchoholic potion.

Disneyland hides the good stuff at their Club 33 but next door at California Adventure, beer and wine were there from the start and if they follow the suit of their Florida brethren, the Twilight Zone – Tower of Terror may end up with a Hollywood meets falling elevator drinking spot.

I think the Disney Anaheim folks can utilize the Downtown Disney and Hotels to sell themed drinks in those bars. If you can afford Disneyland nowadays, and you really have to put a drink in your hand between rides, then head to a bar and get a Star Tours Mos Eisley Cantina Margarita or Captain Hook’s Crocodile Mezcal.

Some places should retain the child like wonder.

Beers and Ears

Mash-Ups are popular in this culture.  Heck, it even has a category on Jeopardy.  That is how far it has penetrated into our brains but despite living fairly close to the original Disney park, I did not know about this blog, Beers and Ears.

intro

Only the interwebs can mash together (sorry about the pun) people who love craft beer and Disney.  But it also can help you locate good beer in the parks.  Wanna get your Scuplin or Pivo?  The site and app can help you.  Due to rotating lists it may not always be current but if a tap had one of those two on, whatever replaces it should be also good.

Now I have to look for a Doctor Who and Craft Beer group.
